Carpe DiemA Story by Dushyant ThadaniWhat do we call life? What do we call living? I don't call my short time in this planet life or living. Normally we just spend our time here in conformity, doing what the masses do, but we also leave our own paths behind. But the paths we usually leave behind could go away with the dust, because people come and cross paths and make their own ones. And every second there is someone else covering the trace of our existence. "Its all bound to happen", says a true pessimist. "Everything we step on, will disappear in some point of time. We can't stop it, nor we can do anything about it. We have to only accept it, and just walk the paths of life as it takes us." But if William Shakespeare would have been this way, would we be reading his works till date. If Mahatma Gandhi gave up this way, would India ever be celebrating its independence. Such eminent personalities are here in this universe, and they were ordinary just like us, weren't they. They weren't born with any special potion. They just believed in living, not being in conformity. That's why they were so special. They didn't have a certain set of rules which governed their mind, they didn't make anything of such sort. Apparently most of us have done just that. We are so afraid of being what we want to be most. We just lose ourselves, our own uniqueness in that process. And then we can't seize the glory of that day or what I've titled this essay "Carpe Diem". When we live everyday freely, we can all be artists, poets, writers, free-thinkers and we can create a path which no one can destroy. And only then we can say we've truly lived, and only then we can say we had a life once in here. At least its like that for me.
