Ya know, David?
Not to say there are not an untold number, but I've come to believe the premise that there are three "basic" individuals in each of us: The one others perceive, the one we believe we are, and the real Us … whatever that means and by whatever method we are to ever know that "real" individual.
Life often requires us to wear many hats, to express untold faces, to fit in ways that create balance … all of this (and so much more) requires endless skill, intelligence, empathy, compassion, creativity, etc; but most importantly — knowing and never losing sight of one's-self; yet, we can become lost so very-very easily in all the scenarios and personalities, eh?
Jeeze! The impetus of your poem has gotten me on a soapbox … LOL!
Ah, but is this not what excellent poetry does … draws readers into the author's moment, in such ways we relate and are captivated by their apt skills … as I surely am by yours!
An excellent, envy-worthy work, My Friend, and I thank you sincerely for sharing it.
Thank you, David, and bless you, whomever we both may really be … hm? ⁓ Richard : )

I also enjoy the momentum a poem can feed my inspiration. (Again, we relate). :)
I think your observation is true of most of our perceptions. (What we see, what others see, and reality).
Consider the intention of this write to be less about finding oneself and more intent on accepting we will always be in a dynamic state of becoming someone else... (maybe becoming more Yin or more Yang, more evil or more righteous, more enlightened or less enlightened).
This was the mental state of my pondering.
Again, gratitude to you for such generosity of spirit in your comments.

Relativity is a necessity in all things; for, without it nothing could exist … all is ever in a flux (especially the human condition). The only manner in which we can control who we are and what we will become is by being on our highest possible level of consciousness about ourselves and all that influences and conditions us, and possessing the skills necessary to control it all.

Ah yes... One day... ;) Wise words and directly on point.
but the change is gradual as we age....and sooner or later we realize that at each turn of the page, we are who we are at that particular moment---just an older version.
nicely done...

Than you for always finding time to read my poetry Jacob. You are a true friend.
This poem is a little cryptic, in that I'm left wondering what it all means. It's thought-provoking, becuz I start wondering: what will become of me. Not a question -- subtleties like that are what make this a challenging read. In the last sentence: we are ALL becoming someone we aren't. I really love this conclusion, becuz of its universal appeal. Thanks for sharing your poem.
