Ya know, David?
Not to say there are not an untold number, but I've come to believe the premise that there are three "basic" individuals in each of us: The one others perceive, the one we believe we are, and the real Us … whatever that means and by whatever method we are to ever know that "real" individual.
Life often requires us to wear many hats, to express untold faces, to fit in ways that create balance … all of this (and so much more) requires endless skill, intelligence, empathy, compassion, creativity, etc; but most importantly — knowing and never losing sight of one's-self; yet, we can become lost so very-very easily in all the scenarios and personalities, eh?
Jeeze! The impetus of your poem has gotten me on a soapbox … LOL!
Ah, but is this not what excellent poetry does … draws readers into the author's moment, in such ways we relate and are captivated by their apt skills … as I surely am by yours!
An excellent, envy-worthy work, My Friend, and I thank you sincerely for sharing it.

I think your observation is true of most of our perceptions. (What we see, what others see, and reality).
Consider the intention of this write to be less about finding oneself and more intent on accepting we will always be in a dynamic state of becoming someone else... (maybe becoming more Yin or more Yang, more evil or more righteous, more enlightened or less enlightened).
This was the mental state of my pondering.
Again, gratitude to you for such generosity of spirit in your comments.

Ah yes... One day... ;) Wise words and directly on point.
So true, the next moment one may be faced by a revelation which would tempt him to become somebody who he is not. It is a very frequent question- "what will become of me?" and as you have highlighted in your poem, it is an unanswered question. A very deep free-verse poem. Quite engaging. Well-written. Keep writing.

This was because the I am making a statement or proclamation that change will happen and I accept what will be. This was the whole point of the write. Not a fear or a questioning. Just to be clear. :)
I know I can be obtuse at times. I am sorry for the confusion.

I find life funny, when looking back. Laughing at the past, laughing even at the possibilities...laughing at thinking there is ever anything but now. I am always, Me, at this moment, whoever the hell that is hahaha
I LOVE the last stanza :)

When I'm worried or sick the poem becomes a nagging question. Yet, when I am in a state of empowerment the question is eliminated into the answers. We ask ourselves what the future holds and the answer only can be, "It will be what it will be". I know I can only live in the present moment... But when the moment is something you wish to escape one tries to escape into the past or future. Still, we can only escape into a new meaning of the present. This is a challenge! I'm learning. 😀
Thank you for stopping by.

Ah yes... One day... ;) Wise words and directly on point.
We wear different coats depending on the weather of our incessant spirit. Tis neither aim nor intention, but more the moment.Pulling it close so it becomes another skin.. contentedly feeling COMPLETE for and only at that moment. Perhaps?
Perhaps acceptance is the rule. having confidence in guidance we never see but surely feel. Perhaps?
Am off and away to think plus use a phrase from my review.. .

that realization of how small we really are ....how inept at deserving salvation ... at prayer ... at doing something "right" ... gives author to:
" “Be patient with this soul…”
(Spoken as a suggestion)"
if we can stand shakily before God and utter something as honest as that ... not turn right nor left ..not turn and run ..not embrace anger and blaming ..well ..perhaps we will be OK
your closing is intriguing ... from one moment to the next we can become someone different but there is a hint of letting the dog out in tomorrow .. maybe a more grizzly tale to tell ... enjoyed the layers of this poem ... you put a new definition on being someone i am not ... perhaps i can improve eh!? ;)

You seem to understand well my intention here with the exception of "letting the dog out". I had no thought of anything other than inevitable change... For good or bad will be a thing of free will or destiny or both depending on the readers beliefs.
Yes, before the Creator of the Universe, is there any posture other than humility blended perfectly with gratitude.
Thank you kindly.
i agree with everyone else's sentiments: this is indeed both interesting and i also find this: cryptic.
i like the inner dialouge , seems like a conversation with the psyche and the mind...
and impatience in regards to the mind and a waiting...more laid back attitude with the psyche...
i am probably far off...but either way, brilliant word play and unique concept that
forces one to ponder.
thank you for sharing :)

As a statement, or better an answer to a question with expectancy.
We just don't know do we. Not moment by moment at least.
Acceptance is indeed the key thought.
Thank you for seeking to find meaning in my words. This is very much one of the reasons we share.
I enjoyed your review.
Excellent! Profound and poignant...we evolve as our soul deems fit and perhaps the question is the answer itself...I love this :)

We do change with each day, we learn new things, experience new sensations and become more than we were the day before. At least that is how I see it. We are what we are until tomorrow when we are more than we were. (hopefully) A really well written thought David.

The review of an optimist. ;)
Thank you very much for the comment.
It is said, "Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting." We can not know what tomorrow brings, David...and perhaps that is a good thing. We are human and as such we are ever-changing. Sometimes the changes are a surprise even to us. We have to learn to accept circumstances and the way they effect us. Tomorrow you will be someone you are not today....and so it shall ever be. The introspection and philosophical aspect of this one was wonderful. Lydi**
