Equilibrium

Equilibrium

A Poem by David Scott
"

The metaphor of scuba diving inspires once again...

"

I exhaled a bit too much

let my guard down to

breath out and

rapidly began to sink,

forgetting to swallow

no longer able to

equalize the pressure

kicking hard to rise

where depth finds a measure

of comforting relief

knowing I might need to

stay out of the water.

Such comfort can mislead...something about the deep that lures me...

stunning write, brilliant use of metaphors, depicting
drowning in helplessness, yet determined to break thru
the surface... I enjoy your
choice of words you penned. Thank you for sharing (:

Thank you very much. Myself and I will stop by to read one of your writes soon. :)
Intriguing metaphor.
Water can be so benign, but also so treacherous.
Luckily I was gifted with large eustachian tubes...I loved to descend very rapidly.

Impossible to stay out of the water when there is so much of it in you :) Float weightless in it's realm and marvel at all the life within.

I think this might be the most perceptive response I have ever had to a poem...
Thank you...
I have not done a dive in many years, but still have a DUI Dry suite and all the other s**t. Nice work on finding that happy spot. Just to float in space and time as all around passing by as bubbles rise. Oh better check the air. Thanks for the memories.

Very nice David. I found myself holding my breath halfway through this.

Never hold your breath... First rule of diving; honestly. Ha.
Thank you for reading.

I remember my first dives and related well, David. Keep at it, it's a new and marvelous world down there. In the meantime, another delightful point of view about a typical event. Well done.

Drowning is such a terrible and strange experience. I really like the last two lines, "knowing I might need to stay out of the water." That shows that our abilities can only go so far.
