Bandaids and Lollipops

Bandaids and Lollipops

A Poem by David Scott
"

When we need comfort sometimes...

"
Bandaids and Lollipops

You have been,
are still
and will ever be,
my comfort.

When the knee
of life gets skinned,
tears drying
upon the chaffed cheek
of undeserved sorrow,
your kindness binds
a salve of wellbeing;
warm gentle attention is
my bandaid of joy.

Lessons giving
the vaccination of
cold hard fact,
reality unfairly insisting
a needled penetration,
immunizing against
childish wishes;
your smile assuring
my lollipop reward.

Today it seems impossible,
bitter and beyond
a gagged reflex,
fighting to stomach
an unthinkable, undrinkable
cup of suffering;
still stinging, longing
for bandaid comfort
and lollipop satisfaction.

You have been,
are still
and always will be,
my comfort.

Doctors come in many forms, and so do lollipops and bandaids. Nobody ever stops needing, my friend. We all need.
Great poem, loved it.

Thank you for reading Astri.
The comfort of genuine friendship , whether romantic or platonic is immeasuable. I feel that the metaphors in your poem symbolise that simple solutions to a problem can often be as effective ( if not better) than elaborate measures.

A gentle lesson here.

Thank you Norman. Yes, a little love goes a long way!
the analogy is brilliant here. I can picture this kind of love doctor, who doesn't just love you when you are healthy, but stands up when you are sick. Knows when you need to hear that reason. Not afraid of you, yet not afraid to send love to you.

we all wish for a friend who has those qualities, a shame many seem to have something making that impossible...jealousy, apathy...who knows, you pick from a long list. I really enjoyed your poem, I like me a lollipop now and again. ;)

Thanks...Happy New Year David................ You are welcome.....
I adore this, it totally captures a sense of innocence that is taken away when we grow up, but some is still left behind. It was written wonderfully as well. Great poem:)

Thanks for your kind review Supe'. 😏
Even though they are "small" comforts, a bandaid and a lollipop go a long way when given with the hands of love... we take whatever comfort we can get... a good ponder, David. Makes me want to hug my grandmothers...
