A Whispered Breath

A Whispered Breath

A Poem by David Scott
"

Reflections of passion in a quiet voice...

"
In the endless void of all beginning...
The Spirit breathed ~
Across the vastness of unmade galaxies
there was a still, small voice.
I, made in the same image
raise my voice
breathing my whisper
warm upon an unmade love.
Do you answer my call?

Doing thus, would we be reborn?
Now, flesh of my flesh
as one, bone of my bone
all our desires melting,
gathered in the clutches of satisfaction
blissful pleasure is ours.
Not of my creation,
lest I appear to boast, Bounteous joys freely gifted.

Should we claim ownership?

Are we full of such greedy audacity?

Though I hunt the deer upon my land
consuming what I claim is mine
we both return to dust,
this living land remains the basket of our passing.

If the flesh passes not beyond the veil,
what does it profit to preserve purity?

There can be no blasphemy in pleasure.

Neither is there vanity nurturing passion.

Doth human legacy not ride the crest of passion's waves?
Do we not collect our lives upon time's sand spilled shore?
We need not shout our rage
striving to live beyond fate's shadow.

Expect not loud beating drums or bugled songs
heralding our arrival and all to soon departure.

Listen to the quiet pulse...

Two hearts echoing a whispered legacy ~

Exhaled upon spent, flushing flesh
Fulfilled in the climax of our love.

Another excellent poem with the depth of a microscope. The alliteration is peppered throughout nicely.

You're welcome.
there is a gentleness and a resolute spirit about this poem - it is deep - discussing those things we flit way from most days - our existence, our legacy - the parts of us that are finite, yet there is no sadness. It is what I call an adult poem. Saturated with beauty and wisdom and emotion - yet not raging out of control. it speaks softly and makes the reader lean close to listen.
Doth human legacy not ride the crest of passion's waves?
Do we not collect our lives upon time's sand spilled shore?

and I found those two lines particularly lovely

Love has a million faces! To share any few of them in sweet asides and gentle touches is magical, absolutely! You really have encompassed the meaning of blissful union, David: ' There can be no blasphemy in pleasure, - Neither is there vanity nurturing passion. ..' For me it's the knowledge that what passes between is seen and felt outside-in for both, not just the one. As the same applies to life and what you give to and take from it.. because after all, loving is feeling more alive than anything.. it tickles every sense, it hugs every smile... tis beautiful!

No need to swagger one's physical prowess, no reason to brag its almost selfish glory, but, as you say, 'Listen to the quiet pulse, Two hearts echoing a whispered legacy, .. ..'

I can't quite explain why, but this put me in mind of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.

Thank you Paz. I am glad you stopped to hear the whisper. :)
Life is not a ticker tape parade. No, it is tiny vignettes of love, romance, heartbreak. It is filled with small experiences that do not shout to gain our attention. We must look for them and when we find them, cherish them. There's a lot of spirituality in this one, David. Whispers often say much more than screams. Beautifully written. Lydi**

Fear not for there is no shame in love and shared passion...that is what I heard in this piece. It is love that gives true animation to flesh and bone regardless of our beginnings because love is the most powerful force in the universe. It is beautifully whispered and profoundly moving David.
