Upon the Craggy Spine

Upon the Craggy Spine

A Poem by David Scott
"

A mood I had to express over my lunch hour today...

"

I persist…

upon the craggy spine of life

knowing full well my place

yet, my purpose

evades understanding

Unless…

Unsure…

Until…

You wander

upon this arduous path

finding my solitary vista

needing this sanctuary to be

unassailable…

I am weather worn

too young

to be thus, I am affected,

prevailing winds and exposure,

lightning strikes discharge

tensions explode, observed

by a casual passerby,

and I confined

within foundational rocks,

thirst…

Yes, it is constant,

this burning

thirsty, these roots

delicate and reaching…

a soft persistence

fracturing granite resolve

with a tenderness

of essential vulnerability

yet,  wounded

with the slightest disturbance,

a branch withers and dies…

There is shade to be found

if you would satiate your soul,

my fruit brilliantly colorful

succulently sweet,

fragrant blossoms seasonally precede

this display pollinated

by predictability

of chance happenings,

as deadwood past failings provide you fuel,

inviting you to play, cook, and rest

within my flickering combustion…

Delight yourself

underneath me

within my canopy of love,

swing on devotion’s triple twined cord…

scribe our twinned history

upon the bark of my flesh,

and when at last

the blight doth reach my heart

entwine me

in flowering vines

of shared purpose

covered in affection’s remembrance.

Ha. No thorns here. Just some knots and scars. ;)
This poem shows how someone else complements you. I was inspired to write this tiny gift poem for you:

Complete Connection

Every ship upon the sea
leans on an Other,
a strong wind to push it free,
a tug on its rudder.

You’re welcome! A sail without the wind has no purpose.
David, you write like a pheniox reborn from the ashes, sometimes we need to refresh our weary souls and I think with your words you have reached that goal. Good to see you back.

Ah, feeling old before your time.....beaten up by circumstance and taunted by Madame Fate. The thirst is not a bad thing. It is the inspiration to move forward into the future...to achieve the dreams you have dreamed and to start dreaming new ones. Not sure if you are married or have a significant other, but the last stanza made me think you are speaking to a romantic interest. Yes, a shared history means so much as you grow older. Your thoughts are entwined with another's and your dreams are fulfilled together. Remembering things you have shared is so sweet. Of course, you could also have been referring to Mother Nature. In any case, your words were beautifully written, David. Very expressive. Lydi**

This was amazing David. Love happens in your flickering combustion as both heart doth reach into affection. Your twine chords are revealing your twinned history. No slight disturbances in your words when you discharge tenderness to each other. Excellent...:)......................

Yep. Stands out. You are welcome...:).....................
The words you have penned here take on the beauty of it all, even when it's over on earth love never dies:
Delight yourself underneath me.
Within the canopy of my love,
Swing on devotion’s triple twined cord,
Scribe our twinned history upon the bark of my flesh,
And when at last the blight doth reach my heart,
Entwine me in flowering vines of shared purpose,
Cover me in your affectionate remembrance.
