Thoughts of a Cloud

Thoughts of a Cloud

A Poem by David Scott
"

It is a cloudy grey day and I felt like channeling a cloud... or maybe letting a cloud channel me...

"

Thoughts of a Cloud

I am there

in the glimmering morning

the weight of dreamless nights

burning away in the warmth

of your love

a Smokey Mountain mist.

Between your eye and a faint yellow glow

I live

an ever transforming landscape

floating beyond reason

until your imagination gives me form.

Billowing pillows of cotton like softness

sweet as cream

whipped and layered

upon the tartness of your tongue

I wait to be tasted

A chill pushes me upward

mushrooming thunderheads rumble

electric in proximity to you

I become a downpour

quenching a lusting thirst

I am still here

a grey sheeted greenhouse

humidity, glued to the tree tops

longing to ascend to the heavens

embraced in the warmth of you

My love for you will show

look up… look out upon the painted sky

I live in the blue eyes of a clear sky

refracted in all the colors

condensed within your dreams

Who'd imagine that clouds could spur such passion.. this is extraordinarily alive, full of colour and motion!

This paints an incredibly vivid picture in my mind, ' .. I am still here - in a grey sheeted greenhouse humidity, - glued to the tree tops - longing to ascend to the heavens - embraced in the warmth of you'. There's a panorama, a distinct shadow, a reflection and an endless circle of metaphors thrown up and up and up ..

Adept personification, lovely imagery, and I agree with Madeline: excellent choice of words. Smokey Mountain mist; cotton like softness sweet as cream whipped and layered...; the colors condensed within your dreams. I particularly like the observation "floating beyond reason until your imagination gives me form"; reminded me of my childhood, and even now I still do it. Outstanding poem!

Thank you again Roland. I too still gaze at the metamorphosis of the atmospheric vapors...
This was so dreamy. The word choice was so excellent, it was soothing to read. I absolutely love, "I become a downpour/quenching a lusting thirst." It paints such a vivid picture in my mind, love it.

Your range of vocabulary is what makes this piece of writing resonate with a reader. In the body of this poem, you choose words which both hint and emulate the presence of a cloud, with perspective from above and below. While certain writers obviously have a particular handle, it could be true of a well-versed poet that they can expand on the definition or depiction of nearly anything. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed reading this piece.

Thank you for your considerate review. I enjoyed the experience of this inspiration. :)
Your poem makes me want to pluck the clouds from the sky and taste them. Alas, they sleep much too far off for my reaching. Inventive writing my friend
