Sea Oat

Sea Oat

A Poem by David Scott
"

Frieda mentioned you seldom read poems about the Sea Oat... I thought it was a situation needing remedied...

"

Sea Oat

Sand dunes shift

Salt gathers on her bowing head

Delicate, the limbs of her reaching

Danced in the turbulence of changing winds

She stands

Be careful where you trod

Her resilience in a hurricane

Withers… pressed carelessly under foot

Whence you came and where you go

A pathway her sentinel steadiness guards

Retreating storms must submit

Relenting to leave some residue behind

Ripples of dry waves collected in her roots

Building and rebuilding the shoreline

Keeping a respite from the sea

I love the beach..so this one hit just the right spot. Who would have thought something so lovely could come from the simple sea oat... I'll thank Frieda for inspiring this wonderful piece. And your pen so aptly painted it all. Fantastic David..
