Rooted

Rooted

A Poem by David Scott
"

A thought about being planted geographically, socially, physically, but still free to roam...

"

I don’t know when it happened

All I know for sure is I have taken root

Planted in the rainforest

Shrouded in mist and shadow

Parented in the smoky mountain’s gently folding hills.

Seasons have come and gone

I am yet a sapling

Reaching out and up

Sheltered and fed in filtered light

Inherited potential, towering an unfathomable height above me.

Rooted in blessed loam

Cemented in the clay of home

Daily drinking the blooded dew

Knotted bark blanketing my flourishing soul

Nourished with the satisfaction of knowing discontent.

Dreams come to me

Migrating wings whisper temptations

Raindrops taste of unfamiliar joys

Breezes scent my own evaporate

Oh, how I sway to dancing pulse of Earth’s music.

Beside me, my future sprouts

The wind carries seeded thought

Synthesized into air and clay

I will know each land one day

All of Earth will be known, as now I’m known by Her.

Your nature poems are so filled with reverence. I love this lyrical stanza:

Dreams come to me

Migrating wings whisper temptations

Raindrops taste of unfamiliar joys

Breezes scent my own evaporate

Oh, how I sway to dancing pulse of Earth’s music.

Connected in general...
It is heaven and hell all at once.
This is pure Bliss...

"sway to dancing pulse of Earth's music."~ Such wonders she blesses, for all to breathe in...if only you open your heart, and allow her to take root in your soul....then you will truly know the earth, as she knows you...

An enchanting write, dear Poet~xoxo~:)

An amazing title and poem. I like how you describe your roots , your place in the world , your value or worth in the scheme of things and how you are touched by nature as she touches you with the beauty whether material or spiritual all around you.
An Arab saying : He or she who deny their roots( origins other translations ) have no roots...
Excellent...:)..............

Gotta be kidding!? lol You write with epic depth, I am always blown away x
i absolutely love the ending verse. You take your time painting an evocative, vivid picture of how well this earth of yours knows you, your roots stretching deep inside your land, and then launch yourself out from that basis in the end. When our roots are strong, we travel better, paradoxically.

Thank you Joie. You seem to have read my intention well here. Life is "paradoxical"...

We all grow, each day, whether we like it or not. Life happens, learning happens and very often love happens somewhere along the way. My friend you have painted life, from its early stages to the wisdom that blends in with the weathered bark we end up wearing. Very nicely penned David.

Living and having life as it should be.
You take a partner, make a family, raise them, make a living, have life.
Continue to learn to know other as how earth recognizes your existence.

This may not be your intended meaning, but I enjoyed how I pictured the simplicity and the grandoise of living and of having life at the same time while reading your poem.
