Dragon Tears

Dragon Tears

A Poem by David Scott
"

The healing power of love and the joy found in the freedom to share tears...

"

Cursed with perfection's mirror,

I could only measure my failings,

Accomplishments piled to mountainous heights,

Like a dragon’s horded treasure.

My bed bringing the envious and thieving,

Snitching as they avoid the smoke and fire.

Oh, but I could fly!

A giant soaring beyond the blue horizon,

Only to land spent,

Dumping my treasure gained,

Bound to sulfurous complaints,

Unable to escape the gravity of my atmosphere.

I was not invincible.

Deep wounds oozed beneath hardened scales.

Feigning satisfaction behind the thinness of a false smile,

Chest puffed thick with the fullness of pride,

Sucking up years of toxic lore,

Lava burning tender, hidden depths.

She found me quite by accident.

Choosing to see the man within,

~ She loved ~ I was undone.

Armored shell transformed to golden sensitivity,

She bathed me in the cathartic tears of my transformation.

My perfection found at last ~ reflected in the mirror of her eyes ~

Not sure how this translates... be honest. I feel lost with my poetry of late.

This is quite interesting.

Because I love dragons, this was an extra treat for me, so I'll give you points for my personal bias. The dragon and its hoard as a metaphor was clever and expertly done I think. Your points about perfections mirror were also well done and I certainly felt a sense of...self-deprecation throughout. In the end though, you brought it to a lighter shade of story, with the unlikely woman and her love.

Your final line was by far my favorite from the whole poem.

One thing I noticed, and I do wonder...first stanza, third line, was "pilled" perhaps meant to be "piled"? That seems like the word you were looking for.

Overall though, I very much enjoyed this work of yours. You penned it well. Perhaps you are not as lost as you feel.

Edit: Your poem also reminded me, appropriately so, of the song, "Tears of the Dragon" by Bruce Dickinson.

I find tears of joy are vastly preferable to tears of sorrow.
