The Lion and the LambA Poem by Dressed in PoetryFun with formatting.
He
Knew that
His entire life was
Merely a pattern: a façade
A violent maelstrom of turbulent
And tumultuous affairs that he would have
Given anything to become apathetic to, but he also
Knew that she was counting on him to be the one who was
There for her, the one that she needed for love and support, for he
Was the lion while she was the lamb, and he had to use his blemished and
Terrible character to do be able to protect her innocence and perfection, even if
He would never be able to have that, because she was what his true purpose in life was.
So he schemed, plotted, and planned And she sat, guiltless and faultless,
He destroyed, ruined, and ravaged Within her sanctuary, shielded from any
But mostly, he allowed himself to be Harm that the world would ever be
More corrupted, tarnished, and tainted. Tempted to do upon her. She was
While he murdered his virtue, as he Never allowed to venture forth, to keep
Massacred his morality and even Her safe, he said, and she knew it was true
As he assassinated his integrity, Because she was too naïve, and they would
He knew that he could not stop, for Too easily overcome and destroy her. So
He did it for her: he did it for the good She remained pretty and perfect while
Of everyone, because if he allowed her to He became damaged and defeated:
Be corrupted – if he let her be taken – He tried to save humanity, and she let
Then humanity never stood a chance. Him to destroy himself during the process.
