![]() Death of LoveA Poem by Dressed in Poetry
He was charming,
Intelligent, humorous,
Which was everything
She
Was looking for.
So slowly, subtly,
Bit by bit, she
Gave
Him the pieces of
Her heart: her wounded
Heart, which had been torn
Up
And ripped down,
Left to beat alone and
Carefully stepped
On
Too many times before.
It was too much to ask
That she live her entire
Life
On the edge, preparing
For another ache, so she
Threw that idea away
And
Handed him the keys
Which could harm or
Comfort her; she
Gave
Him the ability to
Destroy her again, to
Demolish her faith
In
All men, in all life.
And he did not realize
What she had given up
To
Be with him, to love him,
And so he threw her love
Aside and sent her into the
Death
She had feared: the death
Of her ability to love
Ever again.
