![]() Ransom NoteA Poem by Dressed in Poetry![]() Just random silliness.![]()
As she walked along
Cheerfully, freely, the
Wind blowing her hair
Into tangled knots and
Causing them to block
Her vision. The light
Faded slowly, and she
Noticed something
Floating across the
Road that did not
Belong in the mess
Of scattered leaves,
Fallen from their
Arborous sanctuary.
It was a note – slightly
Yellowed and crumbled
Up – and it glided to her
Along the current. She
Bent down to catch it
With her finger cages
And opened it,
Caressing the folds in
Her hands, her
Curiosity spilling over.
It was difficult to read –
Written in light pencil
That was hard to
Decipher in the dim
Daylight – but she tilted
It and then froze, for
That was what it told her
To do: “Freeze. If you
Move, I will kill him.
Instead, stand still, drop
This note, and place
Your hand over your eyes.
I will come behind you.
Do not move, for I am
Armed and will shoot.”
So she lifted her
Arm to cover her eyes
And waited and waited
And waited, but no one
Ever came for her,
And so she was left
In the road forevermore.
