![]() Bathroom NumbersA Poem by Dressed in Poetry
He saw the writing –
“Call for a good time” –
And he smiled to himself -
A lustful, greedy
Smile it was –
For this would be
The third time
He dialed one of
The many numbers
Upon the wall,
And the first two
Women had definitely been
Worth the call.
The first number
Of the seven-digit
Heaven was hit,
And his smile widened.
The second,
And a glaze
Entered his eyes.
Number three,
And his lips
Parted slightly.
Four –
Over halfway through
And he could not
Contain himself.
Five was hit quickly,
With shaking fingers,
And six drew a
Breath after
As he paused,
Remembering his line
Before number seven –
Lucky number seven.
Three rings and
Then a sensual
“Hello?”
From the other end.
He quickly delivered
His prepared line
And smirking
As he received
A confirmation.
They arranged to meet
In the darkest corner
Of the most rowdy
Restaurant –
The bawdy, vulgar
Tavern on 36th
And Western.
He wore his
Hair slicked back
And his buckled
Shoes, which clomped
As he slid into place.
In came his date,
And his eyes widened
As his lips parted
Once more
To breathe in
A shocked breath,
“Mother?!”
