Explosion

Explosion

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry

It did not begin
Softly or slowly
Like a hurricane does –
Building up its
Strength before
The attack,
Swirling and
Spiraling in the
Ocean before
Coming to rest
Upon the wreckage
And destruction
It has caused.
Nor did it start
Like a great conflagration,
Which starts as a
Spark, and grows
As it hungrily
Devours all in its path –
Simmering and
Spinning around
The world
And leaving only
Ashes behind.
No, it opened
With a bang,
Like an explosion –
A sudden impact
Which flattens
Everything around it –
Unpreventable
Because it is
Unpredictable,
But gone in an instant,
Leaving only the
Confetti-like debris
To float down
From the gray sky.

It was an explosion
That occurred when
I met you.
And unfortunately,
The aftermath was
Like the explosion too.

What a wonderful poem, I really enjoyed the use of the word explosion and of its aftermath. Thanks for writing.
