![]() Just oneA Poem by Dressed in Poetry![]() My friend witnessed these events just today.![]()
She got up,
Smiling delicately
As she rubbed the sleep
From her tired eyes
And fixed herself
A bowl of cereal –
Life, of course,
Her absolute favorite -
Then returned
To her happy bedroom
To put on
A normal outfit –
Khaki pants and a
Sky blue shirt –
So that she could go
To the grocery
To get some eggs
For the cookies –
Practically dough merely
Heated up in the oven,
All warm and gooey,
Filled with chocolate heaven –
She was making for her grandchildren
Later that day.
As she drove down the road,
Slowly, cautiously,
She only noticed
The car in front of her swerve
Onto the curb
Before the black vehicle –
The dark, malicious,
Spiteful, black vehicle –
Hit her head on.
The vision around her
Became as black as the
Blur which had collided
With her innocent, white auto.
The police report
Later told her story,
Without any of the
Love or compassion
She deserved.
The black vehicle –
Operated by a drunk
Who was driving
After a night of partying –
Had crossed over
Into the opposite lane,
Killing the woman –
The woman
Who was only
Buying eggs
For her delicious
Chocolate chip cookies –
Instantly.
The drunk –
The foolish, stupid drunk –
Received a pardon –
An undeserved, unmerited,
Groundless pardon –
For he too
Died in the impact,
Shattered by the drink
Which he so willingly
Gulped just before
Getting into his
Black vehicle.
