Pestiferous

Pestiferous

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry

She was a
            Sneering,
            Jeering,
            Leering
Woman, constantly
Making some sort of
Pernicious face at one person
Or another.
It seemed that she could never
Stop her pestiferous nature
From popping out
And penetrating into the
Heart and soul of the
People who merely tried to
Help her when she was hurt,
            Guide her through the dark,
Ameliorate her by stopping the pain,
But she could not stand to be
            Helpless
            Defenseless
            Powerless
To all that assaulted her body,
For her pestiferous nature
Stemmed from the pestiferous disease
Which spread underneath her skin
And damaged her mind,
            Her heart,
            Her soul,
Until she was ready to scream
And shout,
            “Please! Just kill me now
And let me be, because this
            Feeling you are giving me,
            This knowledge that I am
            Vulnerable, is the worst part
            About knowing I will die!”
But the woman –
The scared, weak woman –
Could not admit she was susceptible
To anything,
And so she continued to
Attack others
Just as the disease attacked her.
