Stuck in my Head

Stuck in my Head

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry

I will never be able to get
This pounding noise out of my head.
The beat will stick,
Forcing me to walk in step.
The words make me
Want to sing –
Not out of joy,
But in a futile attempt to get the
Over-used lyrics out of my head.
Please, someone
Invent a machine
That will allow me to clean
The puddle that this
Cheesy ‘80s song
Has made of my brain.
With its corny rhythm
And crazy rhyme,
It has penetrated
Deep into my mind
And now I fear
I will never be able
To rid myself
Of the constant frustration
That comes from having
A stupid song
Stuck inside my head.

this is lyrical, and holds just enough Funny to make it interesting. and even though it's humorous, you manage to get real emotion out of the reader, as well.

"Please, someoneInvent a machineThat will allow me to cleanThe puddle that thisCheesy '80s songHas made of my brain."

that was great, and the occasional rhyme worked so well, too.

and the ending was great. you took something that happens to everyone and made it Real, in a poignant yet funny way. great job :)

hugs
