International Flat Earth SocietyA Poem by Dressed in Poetry
She was a nonconformist
In every definition of the word –
She wore trash bags instead of clothes
And actually read the books assigned
Instead of just the Spark Notes –
And she hated all authority
(Yes, she was an
Anarchist as well).
If a rule was presented,
She would find the one exception
And then refuse to accept that
It worked the other ninety-nine
Percent of the time.
So when her teachers
Argued with her –
“Will you just accept
That the world is round?!”
They exclaimed –
She set out to prove them wrong.
Sure, there were pictures from space
That showed the earth as round,
But how was she to know
That they were not tampered with,
Like so many other pictures these days?
She soon discovered
That other people –
About 3500 of them –
Also refused to accept the “facts”,
And they set out on the journey together.
They gathered the evidence,
The International Flat Earth Society,
And they came together once a year
To present their facts
While enjoying some nice
Homemade cookies
Made by the nonconformist
Especially for the occasion.
