Murphy's LawA Poem by Dressed in Poetry
She lived by caution
Because Murphy seemed to follow her everywhere.
Once, when she was little,
She had created a perfect sandcastle,
But, in her haste to show her mother,
She tripped, breaking her ankle
As she fell upon her prized creation.
An accident,
She called it.
A few years later, she was walking
Down the stairs –
Toward her date, whom she had spent hours preparing for,
Donning a beautiful dress that made her feel pretty –
And she stumbled,
This time crushing her arm
While ruining her dress.
Now she was in college,
And fell in love with a boy
Who was her complete opposite;
That is, he seemed to be graced
By good luck instead of bad.
She hoped this would be her
Chance to prove that Murphy’s Law
Was a figment of her imagination,
And she clung to him
As tightly as she could.
Unfortunately, the boy, her love,
Only wanted to be free,
And Murphy ruined her life once more
By driving him away
From her attempt to control happiness.
