SophisticationA Poem by Dressed in PoetryNumber 3.
Theodore laughed –
That sort of snort that is not really
A laugh, but more of a
“Humph” of disgust –
And thrust his nose into the air –
Somehow, he had managed to perfect this movement
So that his chest was thrust out as well –
And gave that look –
The one that makes the receiver want
To curl up in humiliation.
Although no word was spoken,
Theodore had an air
That made everyone feel inferior
Just by being around him.
But, no worries –
Theodore, always the gentleman,
Resumed the conversation immediately,
Steering it away from the humiliated boy
And back onto himself.
