![]() Screams in the DarkA Poem by Dressed in Poetry
The voices echo
In the depths of their own hell.
Screaming, begging, pleading,
Indistinguishable from each other,
Unable to convey their own separate feelings.
Maybe one screams in despair,
Trying to show with her voice the Death
And Destruction rampant in the mortal world.
Another may be begging for hope,
Longing for the people above to find something,
Anything, to cling to.
That one is perhaps pleading for sanity
As she watches brother kill brother,
Son murder father,
Families betray and
Friends backstab.
She begs that humanity
Can retain its reason.
The voices of harpies
Reverberating against the concrete walls
That imprison them within their own minds.
Oh, what a tragedy it is!
That humanity does not
Stop.
To listen to their cries,
Their warnings to us–
Do not forget these fallen angels,
For they convey,
In the confines of their hollow voices,
The truth of the world–
If we ignore this truth,
Then surely,
Surely,
We too will be forced to remain
In a Hades of our own design,
Screaming our individual cries
That become lost in the midst
Of all the pleading voices,
Warning the people that
To lose hope
Is to lose everything.
