Mama Why?

Mama Why?

A Poem by Graveyardfuck
"

A poem about my mom...

"
You hurt me, Mama,
Every time you take his side.

"He's only eight" you say,
Will you be saying that when he ends up in prison?

My house is not a home,
It's Hell,
Where you torture me.

I cry and I cut because of you, Mama,
But you blame my scars on boys.
"They're worthless!" you say.

Mama,
You make me feel worthless...

I wish I could tell you the truth,

But you'd just find some way to turn it back on me.

When I'm 18,
I swear I'm leavin', Mama
Cause I can't stand it anymore.

I'm sorry, Mama,
I tried to be your perfect princess,
But life changed me.

Sober drunk,
I'm sorry,
But I'm not your little girl no more.

I'm growing up,
And becoming stronger.

And one day, I swear
I'll hold up the world with strong arms,
Like Atlas.

But not for you, Mama.

I don't want to be ungrateful,
I don't want to be unkind.

But you cannot control me,
No more,
Mama.

While I don't have a sibling, I share the same relationship with my mom. This is a very good poem Brooke, it really is.

This is so beautiful and kinda of sad but so strong, and the lines that blew my mind- "And one day, I swear/ I'll hold up the world with strong arms,/ like Atlas./ But not for you, Mama."

Intense. So many kids go through things that are terrible or just that are unjust. Mental, physical whatever it is, children suffer the most. I am glad that in your poem she decided to be strong and not be controlled. thanks for writing, it kept me on my toes.

"My house is not, It's Hell, Where you torture me" along with the whole idea of leaving as soon as age 18 hits are two ideas that really hit home with me (personal reasons)! I love the viewpoint of it and the repetition of the word Mama, they give the whole concept and poem more power. The idea of holding the world like Atlas was a strong image, too. I really enjoyed this. :)

This is really a sad reality for many people:
"My house is not a home,It's Hell,Where you torture me." and "When I'm 18,I swear I'm leavin'"
Sadly when you leave you never stop running, just like Atlas you keep carrying the lost world of a broken home.Very good wite.
