Waking Dream of my Heart

Waking Dream of my Heart

A Poem by Dreamerbond

Last night I thought I saw you.

I sat up in bed

and though it was dark,

my eyes pinpointed the open door of my bedroom.

I saw the blackness of the hall shift

as you stepped inside my room,

just like I’d hoped you would,

and walked slowly towards me,

feet silent upon my dusty floor.

You sit gently upon the edge of my bed.

The blankets aren’t wrinkled,

so delicate is your presence.

It’s too dark to tell,

but I know you are smiling softly

as you reach up a hand

to brush the hair back from my forehead.

I can no longer help it.

I lift my hand to touch yours,

but as soon as I think that I can feel your warmth,

everything fades

as you vanish into darkness.

I’m as alone as I’ve been all along,

hand still raised to touch you.

An impossible task.

Are you a ghost?

I hope you’re not dead.

Because I’d really like to meet you.
