Monochrome LifeA Chapter by Kylie Eura Komori "The time has come." A voice echoed, it was deep and terrifying, a voice so ancient it seemed as if it was the earth itself speaking. "What do you mean? What will come?" The young women asked, looking all around her for the source of the voice. "The gears are turning, the cast has assembled, the stage is set, and the curtain rises. All t hat's left is for you to step into your role." "My role?" The women asked. "It is time for you to accept your fate." The sound of the alarm clock repeated over and over until it became more urgent and more annoying. It droned on until a fist slammed the snooze button off. The time six-thirty a.m., year seven-thirteen after the founding of the Universal Government, the thirteenth of July. "Ugh...," The women slowly opened her eyes, her grey room coming into focus. "Another dream." She rubbed her startling grey eyes and raised herself up from her messed up bed. Her raven hair was fanned out across her sheets and all over her pale body. Her face was angled and delicate, while she was average height but with long legs. She looked like a tall teenager instead of a twenty year old, scratch that, twenty one year old, since today was her birthday. The same dream that keeps on telling her about a fate she has to accept. She was getting annoyed by it. After all, Rosalix's motto in life is that nothing is ever determined and she would be the one to decide her fate. What she hated most was people telling her that she has to be a certain way or do certain things in a certain way. It was way too manipulative for her. After a quick shower and getting dressed, she grabbed a granola bar from her tiny, tiled kitchen. She braced herself for the never-ending lifestyle that she had grown accustomed to in the world of Dusk City; the city of refugees, tourists, and crooks. She walked out the front door to the small apartment building she's lived in for five years, the color of a bleak grey spread out through the sky with wisps of clouds floating on the breeze. The sidewalks were cracked and the streets were uneven. The same scenery in the more 'older' area of Dusk City outside of the tourist area. Dusk City was known throughout the various worlds for it's nightlife and excitement, but the locals who weren't company owning big-shots were their workers who try their best to get by, but not all live in houses that were as bad as Rosalix's, she liked it cause it was cheaper rent money so she could save more for what she really needed. The farther in she got to the city, the nicer the buildings got, and more people are seen on the sidewalks. The sound of various vehicles mingled with the layers of chatter on top of each other and other noises to create a sort of deafening buzz. Like all the morning commuters, she was going to work, she had a job as a librarian at the largest and only library in this small world. "Rosalix!" A voice yelled out. Rosalix turned around and saw her co-worker and only friend, Shia. "Happy Birthday!" Rosalix was tackled by a huge hug from her. "Thanks...! Your squishing me!" She yelled. "Oops! Sorry." She let go of her and looked her in the eye. Shia was taller than Rosalix with blond hair and sparkling blue eyes. Shia lived a little closer to the main part of the city in a bigger apartment building. She was definitely a hottie to guys everywhere. She was kind and considerate, practically perfect. Rosalix didn't hate her, but she seemed a little too cheerful sometimes. "Do you want to do anything for your birthday?" "Not really. I'm not much of a party person." She hoped that she didn't have to do anything. "You can't do that!" Shia looked like Rosalix was insane. "It's your twenty first birthday! You have to celebrate by going out and drink alcohol." "I don't know..." She began to protest. "When have I ever been able to give you a party in the years I've known you? Never!" She began to give her puppy dog eyes and pleaded, "Plus, you've almost saved up enough money to leave Dusk City like you've dreamed of. I have to be able to do this before you go! Please, just one party! Please! Please! Please!" Rosalix couldn't resist, and Shia had a point, she never let her friend do anything like that before and today's paycheck would be the last one she needed, it wouldn't hurt just this once. " Fine! We'll go out tonight." "Awesome!" She looked so happy, as if it was her party and she was the one getting the party. "Alright, there's this club that just opened up and I got two passes to it. It's a dance club so you'll have fun." She said with enthusiasm. "I'm going to make this a party you'll never forget!" "Kay, sounds good." Rosalix smiled slightly. She thinks to herself, 'Maybe it won't be so bad. I mean, it's just a party, nothing bad's gonna happen.' "Target in sight." A boy stated. He was on the top of one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city and was talking to eleven other people behind him. They crowded around him and looked in his direction. "Alright, there she is." Another boy said with authority, pointed towards Rosalix and Shia. They didn't have any equipment to help them see from that far, but they could still see them out of all the crowds. "That black haired girl is who were after. Do not lose sight of her at all today. If you see any opportunity, engage and bring her back to the meeting place." "She's cute." Another boy, crouching on the edge of the building, said with a gleam in his eyes. "Don't get distracted. We're here to convince her to join us, we'll get to know her more later." The boy from before commanded. He was clearly the leader of the group. "It is critical that we complete our mission, the fate of the worlds rest in that women's hands." "It appears that they've found her as well." From another part in the city, a group of seven were observing the other party of twelve. They too were on a roof of a building looking down at the people below, or more precisely, looking down at Rosalix. "Who cares. It doesn't matter who finds her first. It's her choice to chose which side in the end." A young man said. "True, and it's been five years since we last saw her, we're not going to lose her now." Another said, determination shone in his eyes. "Yes, the time has come, tonight is when the dance between Light and Darkness begins, and the angel must now wake from this peaceful slumber and face the true nightmares of reality." Their leader spoke. Already he could see that the game was starting, now only one more player was needed.
