My Field of White

This was a poem I wrote in response to a challenge on a forum for James Cameron's Avatar. The poem is pretty generic except for a few points. The five minutes it took to write this were very worth it.

Wandering endlessly through a field of white

I see nothing to mar its perfection
all is clear, pure, and still
except for me… and one other thing

Looking on into the blinding horizon,, I see you
the one I desire, the one I cannot reach
I see your open arms, reaching wide, reaching far
stretching forever, waiting for me

Wanting nothing more than to reach you,
I step forward, out of my safe place, my shelter
I take the risk that all lovers do,
I leave my self-comfort, I run to you

The winter is cruel, cold, false, and deceiving
The snow that made this place perfect shifts,
revealing the truth, that which I want to deny
You were never here, You cannot ever be.

For you are of another world, one far beyond this realm
Your alien skin, blue as the endless sky is forbidden on this Earth
Though I see you in my dreams, and I saw you here,
You are lost to me, driven away by my cursed reality

I stand in that forbidden field of white, cursing shouting
longing for the day when the bonds of this Earth are lifted
waiting for the night that my dreams melt into blissful truth,
I hope for the day that the road to paradise will be open

Even if you aren't an "Avatar" fan, it might be worth the read. It was worth the five minutes I took to write it :)

I actually really liked Avatar, though it'd nowhere near being my favorite movie. That spot is reserved for The Lion King and The Breakfast Club, respectively. :)
