The Accident

The Accident

A Poem by *~DreamDeamon~*

BOOM!!

BANG!!

          Screams fill the streets

          Sirens blare

          Rushing police cars and ambulances

All the people clear the streets

They hide in their houses

We saw nothing, we have nothing to talk to you about

Is all they will ever say

Across the street a little girl screams

           DADDY!!

A man lays flat in the doorway of an old home

The little girl shakes him vigorously

While quickly his other children join her

Six in total by his side

          Shaking and

          Screaming

An ambulance man is rushing to their aid

But the man is too far gone

There is nothing he can do

Police rangle the children

Having them sit on the curb and wait

A car pulls up a girl 24 years old gets out

Runs through the crime scene straight to the kids

Through sobs they try to explain what happened to her father,

Their father

She steps up to the plate

Takes all six kids under her wing

A different city, to her house they go

A three bedroom house with two bathrooms

Three kids to each room

Kids all depressed now also scared

What will they do?

How will they live?

The 24 year old takes on two jobs

The second eldest babysits the others

At fourteen she is learning to be a mother

She has no childhood

Its gone

Its lost

           Forever

But she sees this as salvation

She gets to be with all of her siblings

Unlike those horror stories she has heard

Of other families, of other children

All being separated from one another

Never seeing each other again

So a life with all her sisters and brothers

Is all she wants

She is happy for now

And she will be with them

            Always.

The beginning woke me up and got my attention. I love that you created a story in your poem rather than just describing how lovely a flower is or something. You made me care for these seven people and their father that had died. I felt their emotions and was rooting for them the entire time. This poem definitely does have a sad, melancholy feel to it, but that is necessary so the reader can feel exactly how displaced and upset these children are! Great job as always!
