Stronger Than Ever

Part 2 of my Writing Challenge.

Is it any wonder that I'm struggling to write,

When inspiration floods me like darkness floods the night? 

When the timing's not quite right,

And I can’t adjust my sight. 

I want to write about the moon, 

But I’m drowning in her tides. 

So I curse the verses that don't scratch the surface,

And the lines I can't find the time to rhyme.

The metaphors that I ignore, are screaming at me, slamming doors.

Crying, 'cause they think I've changed,

That I don't see the world the same,

That only pain and youthful rage can fill the blank space on the page, and without it, I will go insane. 

Is it a real surprise that I play old songs on repeat?

Melodies keep haunting me, like echoes of a beat,

To stop memories retreating,

and feelings from being fleeting,

I’d love to try out something new,

But it always feels like cheating.

So I’ve paused the applause and the dropping of jaws,

To take stock of the lot that I’ve got.

The adoration of the nation, waits for me, I test it’s patience.

Worried, ‘Cause they think i’m lost,

That I cannot accept the cost,

But I’m not lost, I’m just being clever, I’ve never been better,

I’m stronger than ever.
