The Good Old USAA Poem by DrocA poem recognizing the USA defense of Australia. The Good Old USA
We walk these peaceful streets in rowdy times or quiet We Barbie at the beach in full sun or moonlit night And our children run the streets all grubby G’day mate Though even if you have enough they’ll put some on your plate
“Steady mate! Don’t bust a gut! You’ve bloody got all day!” And wolf whistles in the wind the hips the skirt the sway Then after work a party, and another one before With a tinny in the hand the knock at every door
And who would guess this gem this land all that we enjoy The invasion the Japanese the horror they deploy The deaf ears of the British we turned the other way We thank you for our freedom the good old USA
The Author: Few are aware that the Japanese Invasion of Australia was underway and inevitable during the war. Our Northern City was bombed, and Japanese Submarines were in the Bay of Sydney Harbor, our major city. Australia was defenseless with all its adult male population fighting in other parts of the world. There was no protective army, and one small warship to protect our vast Northern Coastline. Pleas to Briton " fighting for its own survival " fell on deaf ears; they refused to assist Australia, advising us we would need to seek military assistance from another country. In desperation Australia turned to the USA for assistance " and here it gets interesting. The USA offered to help and sent a General to take over the command of all Australian forces. It’s not that the Aussies didn’t appreciate the gravity of the situation, but the ‘she’ll be right mate, no worries,’ was so ingrained the general had to remind them in public announcements to " in effect " get off their lazy butts,’ because it won’t wait until tomorrow. The GI and the Digger became ‘china plates,’ (Good mates). So thank you USA, you saved the day! © 2014 Droc |
