Nothing Lasts ForeverA Story by PeppyEh, suckish ending
"We can't tell anyone, though. They'll freak out," Taft said.
"As long as we're together," Kat said. She kissed Taft. A week later, Kat didn't like being avoided by Taft at school anymore. She didn't want their relationship to be a secret. They didn't visit each other that much either. Just as Kat was thinking about breaking up with Taft, he called her and asked if they wanted to meet up at the mall. Her mom drove Kat and dropped her off in the front. "Remember, sweetie, nothing lasts forever. You're only thirteen, anyway. You'll find plenty of guys when you're older," her mother said to Kat. She went into the mall. Taft was sitting on a bench. "Taft!" Kat called out. Taft looked up and smiled. Kat sat next to him and Taft kissed her. "What's up?" He asked. "Nothing really," Kat answered. "Taft?" A voice said. Kat and Taft looked up. "Hey, Andrew and Cal!" Taft said. He stood up and greeted them. They all goofed around and talked. Kat watched them and slumped in her chair. Minutes later, Andrew and Cal left, and Taft sat back down next to Kat. "Those were my friends," he said. Kat crossed her arms and stood up. "I love how you spend more time with them, who you see all the time, than with your own girlfriend, who you avoid at school!" She said. "What?" Taft stood up and Kat walked outside to the parking lot. She texted her mom to come pick her up. Taft walked up to her and grabbed her arm. "What's wrong?" He asked. "I don't want to be someone you have to hide from everybody!" Kat shouted. "Kat..." Taft said. "This isn't gonna work out. It's over," Kat said. She pulled her arm away. Taft stood there in shock and Kat started to cry. Three years later. Taft woke up to a call on his phone. He picked up. "We found the Golden Angel," a voice said. White wings blasted out of Taft's back. He went to his closet and opened the door. Inside was a white elevator. He stepped in and the elevator shot up. It brought him into the clouds. Taft walked into the main building of the Cloud Village. Angels were zooming this way and that, gossiping about the Golden Angel. "Taft!" A voice called out from behind him. It was Uncle Morgan. "Welcome back! I haven't seen you in ages," "Yeah," Taft said. "We have an important job for you," Uncle Morgan said. Taft winced at the word 'important'. He screwed everything up and he didn't want to be blamed for this 'important' thing. "What is it?" Taft asked. Uncle Morgan took him into a room with technology everywhere. They walked up to a computer. "I need you to protect the Golden Angel," Uncle Morgan said. Taft's eyes widened. "Who's the golden angel?" He asked. "Kat Celeste," "Kat?! Can I see a picture?" Uncle Morgan pulled up a picture of Kat. She looked much different and Taft didn't recognize her. "Oh... that's not her..." Taft whispered. "What?" Uncle Morgan asked. "Nothing," Taft said. "You have to wear a disguise. Don't mention any Angel information to her. She must find out herself that she's the Golden Angel." "How do you know it's her?" "A demon is after her family. He killed her parents already," Kat pulled up to her aunt's house in her car. She got out, grabbed her things out of the trunk, and rang the doorbell of the house. Her aunt opened the door and hugged Kat. Kat burst into tears as soon as they touched. "I'm so sorry," Aunt Melissa whispered. Kat let go, wiped her tears and nodded. "You let your hair grow out! And you died it!" Aunt Melissa said. "Yup... How's Justine?" Kat asked. "Oh, in her room, listening to music. You know how pre-teens are," Aunt Melissa said and tried to smile. "Do you want to go to school tomorrow, or just settle in first?" "I'll go, I want to get it overwith," Kat said. While she was unpacking in her room, she found a picture of her parents in her bag. She stared at it and tears rolled down her cheeks. "Nothing lasts forever," she whispered. Taft got dressed. He had to die his hair brown to stay undercover. "Well, this will be interesting," he said to himself. Kat walked to her locker. She unlocked it. "Wow, so empty," she said. "Newbie," someone said from behind her. Kat turned around. It was a girl. "Excuse me?" Kat said. "Kidding! I'm Carly," the girl said and smiled. "Hi, I'm Katherine. You can call me Kat, though," "Nice," Carly said. "So what's your story?" "Huh?" Kat said. "Why are you here?" Carly explained. "Oh... I had to move in with my aunt, because my parents died in a car accident," Kat swallowed. "I'm sorry," Carly said. "It's fine," Kat looked down. Carly gasped and made Kat jump. "It's Flame!" Carly squealed and pointed to a boy across the hall. He was leaning against his locker, chatting with friends. "His actual name is Flame?" Kat asked. "Yeah! Isn't it so hot?" Carly winked. Kat giggled at Carly's reaction. Then she looked over at flame. Dark eyes, blond hair. He's kinda cute, Kat thought. Flame noticed Kat staring. He nodded his head and smiled at her. Kat blushed and turned around quickly, banging her arm against her locker. Carly looked at her. "Kat! You like him!" Carly said. "Sorry, I know you like him, too," Kat said. "He likes you back, though! Awww!" Carly said. "Really?" Kat asked. "Yeah! You can totally tell!" Carly said. "You should talk to him," Kat nodded at Carly. Kat went to walk over to Flame, but ran into someone, hard. Kat fell backward and hit her head against the ground. A voice echoed in her head. "Crap!" Then everything went black. Taft sat in the nurse's office and stared at Kat passed out on the cot. You call that protecting? He thought. You could've killed her! I knew I would screw this up. Kat moaned and sat up. Taft flinched when she looked at him. "Who are you?" She asked. "I'm... Cloud," Taft said. "We ran into each other and you were knocked out. I got a nurse, but they were taking too long, so I carried you here," "Oh yeah... I was trying to get to Flame...," Kat's eyes widened. "I was gonna talk to Flame! You ruined that by running into me!" Kat shouted and threw her pillow at Taft. "Hey!" Taft yelled. The nurse walked in. "Children!" She said. Then she looked at Kat. "I see you're better. You two can leave now," Kat and Taft walked through the empty hall together. Kat crossed her arms and didn't looked at Taft. They got to their classroom. They were in the same class. "No way," Kat said and she glared at Taft. Taft opened the door gestured her to go in. "After you," he said. As Kat walked in, she purposely stepped on Taft's foot. At home, Kat went into Justine's room. She was texting someone. Kat stood in the doorway and waited for Justine to notice her. Justine finally looked up. "Hi, Kat," she said. "Hey," Kat said and sat on Justine's bed. "Who ya texting?" "A friend," Justine said. "Cool," Kat said. She looked around Justine's room. Posters of Taylor Lautner flooded her walls. "You like Twilight?" She asked. "Yeah, I can't wait for the new movie to come out this Friday," Justine said. "I can take you to see it. Then, maybe we can go to the beach or something," "The beach?" "We don't have to. You can see hot, shirtless guys there in real life, though, instead of on a movie screen," Justine laughed. Kat heard Aunt Melissa shout from downstairs. "Kat! Can I use your car tomorrow? Mine isn't working! I'll drop you off and pick you up from school tomorrow!" The next day, it was raining. At school, Kat gazed at Flame in the hall. Then, she took a deep breath and walked toward him again. "Hi," she said. "Hey," Flame said. "I'm Kat," "The girl who got knocked out yesterday?" "Uh..." "It's fine, accidents happen." Flame smiled. Then he noticed an eyelash on her cheek. Taft was walking by, and he saw Flame raising his hand towards Kat's face. Taft rushed behind him, and slapped the back of Flame's head. Flame turned around and Kat glared at Taft. "Sorry! Spider!" Taft said. He rushed off and Kat ran after him. In class, the teacher got a phone call. The hung up. "Kat? Your aunt needs to work late and she still has your car. Justine is going home with a friend. She said Cloud will drive you home," the teacher said. "I'd rather stand in the rain," Kat mumbled. Kat and Taft walked through the rain to his car. Taft got in and started the car. Kat stood there with her arms crossed. Taft rolled down his window. "You're gonna catch a cold," he said. Kat got in and slammed the door. Taft drove off. The radio played. Neither said a word to each other. Kat's favorite song came on. She hummed to it. "What did I do wrong?" Taft said. Kat ignored him and kept humming. He switched the station. "Hey!" Kat said. "Look, I know we had a rough start, but can we just be friends?" Taft said. "How does my aunt know you?" Kat said. "We met in Publix," Kat laughed. "Kat! Really?" Taft said. "Fine," Kat said. "Friends?" Taft said. "Friends," Kat said. The rain stopped and they got to Kat's house. She stepped out. "Thanks," Kat said. "Anytime," Taft replied. "Will you drive me home tomorrow?" Kat asked. "You actually want me to?" "Yeah," "That's a first," Kat laughed and smiled. Taft watched her smile. It was a true, happy smile. A real smile. A smile that said she liked him... as a friend. Kat closed the car door. "Where are we going? This isn't the road to my house," Kat said. "Shhh," Taft said. He pulled over in some grass next to some woods.. "Get out," Kat looked at him. "Are you kicking me out?!" "No!" Taft said. He got out. "Come on!" "Okay, okay, Mr. Grumpy Pants," Kat got out. Taft started walking into the woods and Kat didn't follow. He turned around. "We're going into the woods? It's getting dark..." Kat said. "You can trust me, right?" Taft held out his hand. "No!" Taft's hand dropped. "Kat! Come on!" He said, annoyed. "Fine!" Taft held out his hand again, but Kat ignored it and walked on. As they walked through, Kat kept looking around. "What's that?!" Taft shouted. Kat screamed and grabbed onto Taft. He started cracking up. Kat's eyes widened and she shoved him. "Where are we going anyway?" Kat said. "There," Taft pointed at an opening in the woods. At the end, there was a cliff. There was a perfect view of the sun. Taft sat down at the edge and let his feet hang. He patted the grass next to him. "You're crazy! What if I fall?" Kat said. "Hm, scared of dark woods and heights?" Taft said. Kat gave him a look. "Scoot over," she said and sat next to Taft. "I want to see the sunset," Taft said. "So you took me with you?" Kat said. "Yeah," Taft said. "Oh, Cloud," Kat giggled and shook her head. There was silence. "I'm bored," Kat said and yawned. Taft picked up a stick. "Hmm..." he said and smirked. He started poking Kat with it. "Cloud!" Kat said. She kept swatting at the stick. Taft kept poking. Kat grabbed Taft's wrist. He drew his wrist toward himself, dragging Kat with it. Then there they were. 3 inches away from each other. Face to face. They smiled at each other. "The sun is setting," Kat whispered. "Yeah..." Taft whispered back. Then they heard the bushes moving. Taft stood up quickly. "Get back!" He shouted. Kat stood up behind him. Out of the bushes came Flame. "Flame?!" Taft said. "Cloud?" Flame said. "Awkward..." Kat said. "Hey, Kat," Flame smiled. "Hey," Kat giggled. "Look I got a..." Flame said as he pulled out a pocket knife. "He has a knife!" Taft shouted. He walked closer to Flame. "Why are you here?" "Cloud! It's just a pocket knife!" Kat yelled. "So? It's a weapon!" Taft said. "He could kill you!" Kat pushed Taft. "What do you have against Flame?!" She screamed. "He's dangerous! You never know!" Taft yelled. "You're jealous because I like Flame and not you!" "You do?" Flame said. "You do?!" Taft asked. "Ugh!" Kat screamed. "I HATE YOU!" She ran off. "Nice going," Flame said to Taft. Taft whipped around, grabbed Flame's pocket knife, pinned him against a tree, and held the knife against Flame's neck. "Look, you stay away from Kat," Taft whispered. He drew the knife back and stabbed it into the tree, next to Flame's head. Taft found Kat in the car. He got in and started it. It was silent. Then Kat sighed. "I was gonna take you to the beach this Friday..." she said. "Oh yeah? Why don't you take Flame? Since you're obviously in love with him!" Taft said. "See? I try to be nice, and you ruin it!" "Kat, you dont-" "Just shut up! SHUT UP! Don't talk to me anymore!" They didn't talk for the rest of the drive. When Taft drove up the driveway, he saw Kat crying silently. She got out. "Kat..." Taft said. "I HATE YOU!" She screamed once again. She slammed the door and ran inside. Justine saw Kat crying. "Woah. Are you okay?" "Me and Cloud had a fight!" Kat shouted and ran upstairs. Kat pulled on her bikini. It was black with a hot pink heart on her hip. Justine walked into her room. "Wow, you look hot," Justine said. Kat half smiled. "Thanks, I guess," "Kat there'll be hot guys at the beach. You'll be distracted," "It doesn't matter. Flame's coming with us," Kat said as she put shorts and a T-shirt over her bathing suit. "Oh," Justine said. She strolled out of Kat's room. After the movie, they went to the beach. Justine jumped into the water and Kat layed down on a towel and closed her eyes. "Hey," someone said. Kat opened her eyes. Flame was kneeling down behind her. She jumped. "Hey!" She said and stood up. "You made it," she smiled. "Yeah," Flame said. "Justine is in the water," "Cool bathing suit," "Thanks," Silence. "So you like me?" Flame said. Kat's eyes widened. "Yeah... you heard that..." she said and looked down. Flame lifted her chin up. "It's okay," he said. He kissed her. It was long. Flame held Kat's waste and she wrapped her arms around his neck. What they didn't notice, was that from far away, Taft was watching, broken-hearted. Kat and Flame stopped. They giggled at each other. Kat turned around towards the water. She didn't see Justine. Kat stood up. "Justine?!" She shouted. Taft realized Kat panicking. "Oh my god," Kat said. She ran towards the water. "JUSTINE!" She screamed. Flame ran after her. "I'm sure she's fine," he said. "What are you talking about?! She might be dead!" She said. She jumped into the water. "No!" Taft yelled. He chased after her. Kat swam deeper and deeper. Her eyes stung from the sea salt. She swam deeper. Then she saw Justine. Her lips were blue. Eyes open. Dead. Someone grabbed Kat. They pulled her to the surface. It was Taft. "Don't save me! Save Justine!" Kat screamed. Taft didn't answer. He dragged Kat to the sand. She tried to go back in the water, but Taft grabbed her and held her arms back. Flame ran toward the scene. "CLOUD!" Kat screamed. She pushed Taft off of her. "Save Justine!" She shouted and pushed him again. Taft stood there. Flame looked down. "Save her!" Kat said in tears. Flame went to comfort Kat, but Taft punched him. Flame fell to the ground. "STOP IT!" Kat screamed. She punched Taft. It was unusually strong. Taft fell on the ground, coughing. Kat covered her mouth. "Woah," Flame said as he sat up. "I hate you! I don't need you! I don't want you in my life!" Kat shouted at Taft. "STAY OUT OF MY LIFE!" She walked over to her bag and pulled out her clothes. She put on her T-shirt and shorts. Flame went to her. They got into the car, and Flame drove off with Kat, leaving Taft behind. At the funeral, Kat cried continuously. Flame comforted her. Taft snuck in and stood in the corner, holding a black rose. After the funeral, Flame and Kat walked in the woods. "I can't believe this. What does Cloud want from me? He's always there!" Kat said. "He's trying to protect you," Flame said. "Protect me?" "Wow, he doesn't tell you anything, does he?" "I guess not," "Well, I know everything. Escpecially, about you," Flame said. They stopped walking. "What?" Kat said, confused. "I know your fears," Flame waved his hand. Suddenly, they were falling. Falling from the sky. Kat started screaming. Flame floated and watched her scream. He waved his hand again, and they were standing in the woods again. Kat gasped for breath. "I know your weaknesses," Flame said. He waved his hand again, and two people were standing in front of him. They were Kat's parents. "Mom?! Dad?!" Kat ran toward them, but Flame waved his hand again and the figures disappeared. "What are you?!" Kat shouted. "You're worst nightmare," Flame said. He jumped in the air and black wings shot out of his back. When he landed on the ground again, the ground shook, making Kat fall backward. She screamed. Flame zoomed over and held her face in his hands. He kneeled down. "Shhh... the angels will hear you," he said. "The angels?!" Kat asked. Flame laughed. "I'm a demon, you're an angel. Get the dilemma?" Kat looked confused. "I killed you're parents and Justine," Flame whispered. "YOU!" Kat screamed. She pushed Flame. "Cloud is your Guardian Angel. You're the Golden Angel. He was trying to protect you... from me," Flame smirked and charged for Kat. There was a flash of light, and Flame was knocked against a tree. Kat looked up. It was Taft (Cloud)! He was floating in the air with white wings on his back. He floated down and kneeled next to Kat. "Are you okay?" He asked. Kat nodded. She saw Flame get up. "Where are your wings?!" Taft asked. "My wings?" Kat said. "They won't show, you idiot. They'll only show when she shows true love emotion," Flame said. "I killed her family. That didn't work," "I loved them!" Kat shouted and stood up. Taft stood in front of her. "Wait..." Flame said. He charged after Taft and grabbed him. Flame started choking Taft. "No!" Kat screamed. Flame laughed. The wind blew. "LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Kat shouted. She held her hands up and a flash of light exploded out of her hands. It hit Flame and he dropped Taft. Kat gasped and Taft looked at her. Her wings were showing. They were golden. "She's in love with me..." Taft whispered. Flame laughed. Taft and Kat looked at him. Flame had a giant scratch across his face. "Kat, we need to get out of here now," Taft said carefully. "Why?" Kat asked. "Because...." then he shouted in pain. Taft fell over on his face. His back was bleeding, wings gone. Flame had ripped them off his back. "CLOUD!" Kat screamed. She stood up and charged after Flame. He dodged her and Kat ran into a tree. "You're the Golden Angel? Pity..." Flame said. Kat jumped onto Flame's back. He struggled and tried to get her off. She grabbed his wings. "No! What are you doing?!" Flame shouted. She pulled them off slowly. "Ahhh!!!" Flame yelled. She ripped off his wings and jumped off. "So you ripped off my wings? Now what?" "You're a human now. So I can do this," Kat grabbed Flame's arm and broke it. He screamed. Then she choked him. When he stopped moving, she threw him on the ground. Dead. "Cloud!" Kat gasped and ran toward Taft. She kneeled next to him. "Cloud?" She put her hands on his wounds and cried. She heard a bell ring and Taft started glowing. His wings reappeared and he sat up. "Woah..." Taft said. Kat kissed him. Taft smiled. "We have to keep this a secret." He said. "As long as we're together," Kat said. "Deja vu..." Kat and Taft said at the same time. "Funny, my ex said that." Taft said. "Taft said that!" Kat said. "Kat?!" Taft said. "Taft?!" Kat said. "Yeah..." Taft said. "This whole time..." "...and we didn't even know," They both laughed. "I have to show you something," Taft whispered. Taft took Kat into the clouds. Everyone clapped when they saw the Golden Angel. Taft explained the whole undercover thing to Kat. Then, he took her to his sky house. "Open your eyes," Taft said. Kat opened her eyes. Her mom, dad, and Justine were standing in front of them. Kat gasped and hugged them all. "How?!" Kat asked. "They had good souls when they died... so they live in heaven now, with the rest of the angels," Taft said. "How come me and you are angels? We didn't die," Kat asked. "We almost died at birth. So, we're half angel. But you, you're special," Taft explained. Kat smiled and hugged her parents again. © 2011 PeppyAuthor's Note
