Generations

Generations

A Poem by Drama Child

Generations

A rainbow filled with colors

Causes no negativity.

Put it on a human

And it causes anarchy.

But a color is not a thought

It’s not a living, breathing being.

Are you reacting off of feeling,

Or only what you’re seeing?

We’re you educated to tolerate,

Exposed to difference, to embrace,

Or just ignorance & hate?

Do you think it doesn’t exist?

Or maybe it’s just cause you can’t relate!

Inside we’re the same,

Made of the same human parts,

But we all don’t grow up

With the same open hearts.

That’s your individuality, your personality.

You think we can’t own up to this together?

Is one under, are you over?

Is she less, and she is better?

We’re all wrong, everyone of us

And blaming color isn't the way.

Color is what makes us beautiful,

And the ugly is what we do and say.

Generations with the same story

Yet it terrifies, and also bores me.

Taught about it in schools

And still see it on today’s news.

How do we erase the divide?

Break Down the sides?

Come together,

Unify?

How do we stop the mother’s cries?

We need to find the answers

Before our younger generation dies.

Hello,
A smartly crafted piece with fluid and easy rhyme. The weighty content resonates beyond your fair shores...the questioning straight forward and necessary. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you for dropping in on mine. Ngā mihi maioha (warmest regards) Rach x

Nobody's born racist. You put 10 different races of under fives together, and they'll happily play together.
So racism is learned. Will it change, probably not.

Hello, Drama! :)
Great question - "How do we erase the divide?"
There are people chanting decisive slogans. They create and perpetuate division. Maybe we should quiet them.

Yes, quiet them! But how? Thank you for your comment Mattavelli! Much appreciated! :)
race, always a thorn in the paw. I like your articulation of it, true that the younger generation will suffer more than we are today if we condition intolerance.

I agree and I wish I knew the answers.

In my lifetime. I saw starvation, dead cities and the damage done by war. In the nineties for President Bill Clinton. I went on water, food and medicine missions to Asia and Africa. I learn the strength of people living with death near. Thank you for sharing the powerful words. Need to be read by more people.
