A Legend

A Legend

A Poem by DragonSoul150
"

Same as with the Paradis Fever poem, this is a pastiche. This one is based on a poem called 'The Legend' but also mixed in with some reality

"

In memory of Gus Cooper
In The Bahamas, Junkanoo coming,

and everyone is getting in a festive mood,
after a long and quiet week.
Everyone ready to get out,

and enjoy themselves,
with friends and family.
Everyone ignoring the hardships,
but that is just the right amount of time,
for everyone to almost forget,
the stress and tragedies,
such as the death of a loved one.

A teenager waits excitedly,
as a few groups before him march on ahead,
not nervous or anything,
however he feels ready,
as he prepared for this occasion,

for hours and hours each day.
It all started out just for fun,

with a few friends, only possible
because of the sponsorship they received.
But as he goes on to march,
with everyone cheering,
to the sound of loud and wonderful music,
they know all this effort was worth it,
because when they stop,

they receive something, not much but,
as Gus holds it in his hands,
he feels he’s achieved much more than ever before.

Little did he know that this would have,
changed the course of his life forever.

Because little did he know,
how big the valley boys would become,
over the next 50+ years.
And that it would be,
one of, if not the greatest,
Junkanoo group of all time.

Never did he know,
that as he is on his death bed,
lying on a hospital bed,
that his once small group.
Is playing loud and with pride, in honor
of Gus Cooper.

This legendary man, created something small,
as small as just a group of friends, that became something big,

bigger than anyone would have imagined.

About
I'm a 14 year old guy. I don't really write a lot, only when an idea comes to mind and I can remember it. Most of my short stories are written in about 2 hours or less. I may come up with some tragedi.. more..
