Left BehindA Poem by The Ugly RoseI was...so cold The air had frozen around me So solid time itself stood still. The ones I loved had all stopped breathing And I was alone In the darkness that surrounded me. No life No freedom Just a strangling blanket Wrapped tight around my head.
I closed my eyes And remembered that day The day in a tree We were so happy It was so peaceful We were ourselves Free Serene Happy...
Times have changed My skin rgows colder as you move Farther and farther away. My eyes turn from blue to black As the warmth you once provided me Dies like a plant in winter I'm still alone In this frozen block of time As you run in grassy hills
I watched you grow I helped you grow I streered you from the dark woods That never let up To a picnic of dreams Where the path is clear
You don't need me now I can see that plainly But I'm still alone And imprisoned Maybe it wasn't you who needed me To guide you on your way Maybe it was I Who secretly needed a shoulder That I could lean on As I learned along beside you
It was always me that needed help I just taught you how to be free But as you learned I gave you my freedom I surrendered it to you So you could live happy
You had so much more for the world You would be great You will be great You will shine You will save the world with my freedom I will remain cold I will be the Silent Protector I will live in the shadows And watch you be All you can be © 2009 The Ugly Rose |
