Chapter 9: TakaA Chapter by ~Dragon XFelix's mind: Oh look, she knows someone that can teach me dark magic! Taka's mind: This kid is an idiot... Aarwing's mind: Eep! (Translation: Apple!)It took less than five minutes for Aarwing to finish the apple, including the core and stem. Rather than eat the seeds though, he found great pleasure in pretending there was nothing more in his mouth, then spitting them in Felix’s face when he had his guard down. Felix himself was not amused; yelping in surprise when a hard, wet seed tapped against his forehead or cheek, then pouting about it and scolding his ferret. Felix was lucky Aarwing didn't harbor more seeds in his wretched furry cheeks. Unaware that he was being followed, Felix purchased the rest of the things listed on the grocery list without too much of a problem. Due to the embarrassment after trying to ask the farmer selling apples about dark magic, Felix refrained from asking the rest of the clerks in the marketplace he interacted with about it. Fruits, veggies, and bread were swung loosely about in a sack, while he carried a basket with eggs and milk in his other hand. By the time he finished getting everything, it was mid to late afternoon. Felix smiled confidently. All done, he thought to himself cheerily, and on a lower note, I still haven't found anyone to teach me dark magic yet.... "Hey. Ferret boy." Felix almost flew out of his boots. He whirled around in panic to face the source of the sound. A few feet off, stood the girl following Felix earlier, hands on her hips. "Kyah!" Felix shrieked, even after seeing her, sprung a foot backwards. Felix indeed felt like he was being followed for a while, a very real gut feeling and of an ability he obtained ever since he became half-demon; to sense life. Felix hasn't exactly perfected this skill yet, however. Felix extended his sack of fruits, veggies, and bread threateningly. "I--I have a butter knife, and I'm not afraid to use it!" The girl smirked. "Relax, you can lower your groceries and butter knife. I just heard ask about something interesting." Felix blinked. He glanced at his groceries awkwardly. "My...cucumbers?" She rolled her eyes. "Yes, your cucumbers," she said sarcastically and with a visibly fake smile. "Tell me, why did you select a cucumber with approximately 346 warts--? No." The girl looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "It just caught my attention when you asked about the black arts." Felix blinked. "Oh...." The black-haired girl cocked her head and narrowed her eyes a little. "Really, you're an interesting guy...you're a naive idiot when it comes to who to go to when wanting to learn the arts, but at the same time, you seem to have a...kind of a dar presence..." She leaned closer, studying him carefully. Felix edged back a few inches, moving his right hand behind his back. She stood straight again and shrugged. "Whatever. You can call me Taka, by the way." Felix smiled, that brief feeling of suspense released. "Nice to meet you, I'm Felix!" He extended his right hand. Taka's eyes flickered from the hand to Felix's huge grin and back. She then took the hand and shook it, her right curled around Felix's gloved hand, and her left placed lightly at the back of the same hand. Underneath the wool of the glove, it felt like a rock or metal underneath. She squeezed it more tightly to study it more, then in a flash, dug her fingers underneath the glove and tore it off. She held up the loose glove by two fingers in front of Felix's face as if she had suddenly become a bully who just stole Felix's lunch money. Felix gasped and immediately stuffed his right hand underneath his coat to hide its black appearance; but Taka already saw it. "Oh, that explains it. You're a half-demon, eh?" She folded her arms with a smug expression on her face. Felix winced and swallowed. "I...it's....it's a long story..." He reached for his glove, expecting Taka to pull it away from him. She didn't. Felix slipped his glove back on and sighed. "I don't really care how you became half-demon," she said with a shrug, "but if you want, I might know someone that can show you some tricks." Felix's eyes lit up. "Really?" Finally! He thought to himself with a big grin. Taka nodded. "Yeah. Do you have a mom or dad or something?" Felix looked Taka in the eyes, then shook his head. "I do, but...I haven't seen them in years, so...." "Ok then, when do you think you can come back to town?" "Um...day after tomorrow," Felix replied. Taka nodded. "Ok. Meet me at the narrow alleyway by the apple stall by late afternoon, day after tomorrow." Felix bobbed his head with a smile. "Ok, see you then!" He waved and started to head back to the cottage. Taka waved back and strolled off. Felix smiled to himself. That wasn't so bad..... He thought to himself happily as he walked back to the cottage. Aarwing's ears drooped slightly. Apple.... Aarwing thought to himself in ferretese. © 2012 ~Dragon XAuthor's Note
