Afterglow (of a dying love)

Afterglow (of a dying love)

A Poem by Dr Poet

She cried trying to say all she had in her mind.
She wept her soul out in the effort to enclose the whole meaning
in a perfect sentence.

She claimed she wanted to understand the world with him,
not to forget it, to leave it outside the door
then build up trenches against unknown enemies.

She loved with strength and guts,
but people don't get along with temper,
they just want easy ways to be tendered.

She thought she needed him
like an artist needs inspiration from the master,
as well as the latter is nobody without his pupil.

She then could only say:
"Deep down into what you are,
dead centre of your puny heart,
is there some shame left
to explain why you seem so changed?"

Thus came out once again
the inexplicable science of humanity
that makes the hell of doubts
burst out of the brightest answer,
when he said:
"I need you so much,
but I just don't think I love you".

This is how life dies a bit more every day
in this ruthless age of progress and decay.

You know with your work I read, re-read and go for a third time. I do this because the way you take your thoughts (in this case dying love) and transpose them into poetry is how I aspire to write.
This piece is clear, eloquent and so full of emotion.
The sadness of a dying relationship can come across as weepy, melodramatic, hurtful..
This piece leaves me with a long sigh, and the curtain closes..

This resonated with me. I loved the analogies that you used; so perfect. "Like an artist needs inspiration from the master..." Well done.

I have probably found the place where I'd like to pass away, on a very distant day. In the meanwhile, I am trying to make my life something I will be able to feel grateful for, on that very distant da.. more..
