Let Me Go

Let Me Go

A Poem by Symphonic_Sunflowers

You expect me to act like an adult but treat me like a child.

How am I supposed to know if I can survive when left to my own devices, how will I know if I can handle having responsibilities if all you do is hold me back?

How will I know if I can 'achieve anything' if you don't let me do anything, because 'Im your baby'?

Why cant you let go?

You don't just have me,

you have the younger one,

the one you cant make the mistakes you made with me,

the one you can be 'the perfect parent',

let me go,

let me go,

Let me know what I can do, what I'm capable of,

let me flap my wings,

let me scrape my knees,

break my bones,

let me make mistakes,

let me break promises,

let me break hearts,

So I can know.

So I can come back home, and say, I know.

Let me discover myself,

let me get tattoos,

never stop me from living my dreams,

even if you know it may not work out and break my soul and my heart.

Let me grow,

Into my own person,

let me grow into the human being you never imagined I could be.

Let me go,

so I can come home,

with bruises,

and sealed scars,

and memories both good and bad,

so I can have stories to tell you,

when I come back home.

Let me breathe, let me grow.

Don't be afraid to let me go.

Wow, this is a really great poem! I love the way it ends, it leaves the reader with a great lasting impression. It has a great theme as well, sometimes it's hard for parents to understand they have to let their kids go out and get hurt. Parents want to keep their kids safe, but like you said if they don't let them get hurt they won't ever learn! Nice job!
