"The Concert"A Poem by DoveThis is a poem I wrote about watching a thunderstorm from the inside of a cave that I like to go to when I'm feeling creative or looking for inspiration and it has yet to fail me.
Wind hesitates at
first... seeming to inhale Before releasing its ferocious breath upon the earth below. Sparrows fly out of the pines in search of shelter from the approaching storm And finding their refuge they cluster together, Their nervous twittering lessening now. Scent of impending rain is undeniable as it revives my sleeping spirit. Thunder rumbles off in the distance like the growl of an ancient beast warning of its approach. Lightning splits the atmosphere into sections with its stimulating illumination across the mysterious sky. Tiny drops begin to tap upon my head, gently at first then swelling accumulating volume and mass Before quickening their decent into the agitated darkness. Hastening my steps I find my sanctuary in the musty cave I call my own. It awaits for me where it has always been Just at the base of the red rock cliff, near the creek. Twisted gypsum dangles from its walls, wet from condensation. As I crouch in the damp windblown leaves from autumns long gone by, I watch with great eagerness to see the magnificent light show dancing only for me now.... For I am alone in my amphitheater, keeping my magical concert, my hidden treasure all to myself. So exhilarating, so energizing and so pure! Let the wind bluster and carry the clouds to where they burst open and emit their life giving waters! Let it rain, let it wash away the impurities of the land until all is fresh and new again. Let the lightning whip across the immense heavens leaving electrical charges hanging in the atmosphere! Let the thunder clap and boom reminding me of how small and insignificant I am, Yet so very thankful am I to be here... witnessing this gift to all the senses, here on this piece of Earth I call home.
