Romanticized History

Romanticized History

A Poem by Kavern Laurenitis

I want a love
to stand the test of time,
as civilizations do
with blood, gold and wine.

I want a passion
to be remembered through the ages,
to sing like slaves sing,
of freedom in their cages.

I want a bond
to conquer the hardships of life,
as Genghis Khan
conquered a warrior's wife.

I want an intimacy
to persevere in state of turmoil,
like the Spartans, killing
Persians on their soil.

I want a friend
to stand firm through thick and thin,
like the legionnaires' phalanx,
which made their comrades their kin.

I want a heart
to hide in through haze,
as the Russians hid,
setting their fields ablaze.

I want acceptance,
that forgotten ideal.
Just like Cyrus,
who helped the conquered heal.

I want to relive history,
in all its glory.
Retelling the world's,
and my own little story.

I like this! I love the way you use examples from throughout history and then link it all up with the last stanza. The tone of the poem is all mixed up, going from war to love and back again, and all sort of desperate and angry and hopefull all at the same time, well done, great write!
