Burn

Burn

A Poem by Doublejg

The burning of the cigarette
On my lips,
To numb the pain you would kiss away.

You were quite like a cigarette.
I knew it wasn't going
To last happily ever after.
But for a short time
You gave me an unsuspecting buzz,
That quickly drifted away.

And like that cigarette,
Your lengths shortened,
Fluttering around the room in
A beautiful silhouette that
Mesmerized myself and all who were
Privileged to witness your beautiful ensemble.
But I sparked you up all over again -
Still knowledgeable of the damage
That I was endearing.

And like that cigarette,
You were addictive.
I couldn't stay away.
And finally,
When life decided that time was up.
You were gone.
And I had the most beautiful withdrawals.

I would light up that cigarette everyday
Just to feel the happiness that you gave.

I tried to give it a 101 but it wouldn't let me, just so you know.
