Self-hating lies

Self-hating lies

A Poem by Dotsoo

I stare out the window, and onto the street,

My mind casts up ghosts, and with their eyes I meet,

My heart starts to cry, but I wrench back the tears,

For I will not fall flat for all of our years.

Your eyes hold a difference, from which I once knew,

They hold but a sorrow, that I knew wasn’t you,

You turn far away from the heart-broken eyes,

And cover your true face with self-hating lies.

Your face is contorted, so sleek and so blank,

It hurts like a poison, like a traitor at flank,

They say “You’re alright”, but I can’t gather thought,

When I was on my knees, for you I still fought.

So think about me as you dream up a dream,

Where I’m wrapped in your arms, in the calm of the sea,

But look not too far and you’ll soon surely see,

If no one else matters, you matter to me.

I really like this one. It's so heart wrenching but then at the end, it's almost happy. The flow is nice, too.
