The vergeA Story by Imaweirdo:)A short story I created not the best it could be but I'm 12 what do you expect?
THE Verge
My name is Flynn doorjamb and this is the story of me surviving on the verge. I was only thirteen when it happened but I still remember that day, it started like any other…. “Beep Beep Beep” my alarm clock rang startling me. “Flynn? Is that you?” my mom yelled from the kitchen. “Ya, I’ll be right down!” I yelled back. I got dressed in my usual outfit; A band t-shirt, black skinny jeans with all black converse. I was fixing my hair in the mirror when my phone lit up with a text from my best friend, Jasper loan-dray, saying “TURN ON CHANNEL 547 NEWS!!” In all caps. It was probably some UFO junk or something, jasper was into that stuff. Ever since his mom, Juliet loan, married his step dad, Luke dray, he's been quiet. But unless he's talking about the supernatural he barely talks. Anyways, I finished my hair and turned on channel 547 and turned up the volume. “Now to our guest speaker on the pressing matter, *Professor Ian Malcom from the university of Texas.” The TV newswoman said as the camera panned out to show a man about thirty-five, thin and balding, and dressed entirely in black or dark gray. He seemed self-righteous or stuck up when he started talking I could tell he was. “Thank you, I believe this is a side effect of the chaos theory which I explained earlier and since scientist are trying to play god and predict weather and other things the chaos theory is inevitable. The earth is not going to rotate by the end of today no matter what time, or if you’re in china or California or Brazil we will all experience the same chaos effect and no matter what, it will happen the end.” He concluded. I turned off the TV and texted jasper “what the heck!!? I’ll talk to you later.” I jumped up and ran downstairs where my parents were watching the news. Realizing I was late to school I grabbed a banana and hurried out the door to meet jasper. “I knew it Flynn! Didn’t I tell you that something was going to happen!?” jasper said. “Yep you predicted it jasper, do you want to hold the cardboard sign that says ‘the end is near’ first or should I?” I responded sarcastically earning his cold stare. “You’re just mad because the earths stopping the day you were going to ask out Bridget Bromhendl.” Jasper said “Whatever jasp, it’s not going to end today if it was there would be a presidential response or something.” I said and we walked in silence the rest of the way to school. School was the same, with the usual group of nerds in the corner playing video games and Pokémon and hiding from the horde of bullies that stood outside messing around, then were the popular people including the most perfect girl in the world, Bridget Bromhendl. I’m totally in love with her, but she probably doesn’t know I exist. All that is going to change today I thought to myself because I’m going to ask her out. I rehearsed my lines to myself as I walked over to her. Finally the day came when I would either become the happiest guy in the world or the saddest. I took a deep breath and cleared my breath. “Hey Bridget.” I said nervously shaking “Hey Flynn what’s up?” she said smiling perfect. “Umm nothing I was just wondering if you would, umm, wants to see a movie maybe later?” I cringed in fear of her answer. “Sure I’d love to, see you at 8 at my house k?” she asked. “Ya I’ll be there.” I responded “see you later.” I walked away and found jasper in 1st period. I told him the whole thing. After school I worried around getting dressed then I finally settled on a band t-shirt under a black vest and a tie with a fedora and by 7:30 everything was perfect. We were going to either see the romantic comedy, dumb luck or the kind of scary movie, Monday the 16th it depends on what she wants to watch. At 8 I picked her up, luckily she lived around the corner from the theatre and it was a beautiful night so we could walk. She chose Monday the 16th to watch. It was in the middle of the movie when it stopped. You could just tell, for some reason you could. At that time I grabbed my phone and checked it, there was a message from jasper it said “dude I told you didn’t i? Now it has started meet me at the school bring Bridget if you want her to live.” That kind of freaked me out because he seemed real calm but I trusted jasper so Bridget and I went to the school which just happened to be around the corner from the theatre. Our town was really small. Outside everything seemed slow not moving. The usual fast paced Friday night was interrupted by the slow lay back silence making everything seem 10 times creepier than the regular amount. I looked up at the sky to see the moon blood red like the sun but not moving neither were the clouds or the stars. Before I knew it we were at the school. “Why are we here Flynn?” Bridget asked “We need to find jasper, he can help.” I said. “How are we going to find him did he tell you where he is?” she asked “He didn’t tell me but I’m pretty sure I know where, follow me” I said as I grabbed her hand and ran towards the trees lining the fences. I explained as we ran “the trees lining that fence have super strong roots and are connected by tunnels which I and jasper dug when we were in 4th grade 5 years ago. He would be grabbing the supplies and disaster manuals.” “What? Flynn,” she stopped “what’s happening?” I looked at her and couldn’t believe my luck, “I was on a date with the world’s most perfect girl and I ran out on her because my best friend told me to. Most people would say that its crazy but I say its true friendship. Now you can leave go home whatever or you can help me and jasper save the world. *Now do you trust me?” I held out my hand as we stopped at the base of the first tree. With my hand still outstretched I asked again “do you?” She grabbed my hand and with her I took a big step back and fell into the tunnel. I saw jasper packing the last of the materials into 3 big trail packs. “Flynn! Did I not tell you Flynn! Mr. Malcolm was right what did I tell you! HA!” jasper was obviously gloating and couldn’t handle the whole of the situation. “Come on jasp we got to go!” I yelled as I grabbed a bag and jumped out of the tunnel. The others came out right after and we headed to the other side of the town. When we arrived we couldn’t believe what we saw. Half-light half dark the moon and the sun split in the sky. We were on the verge. That was 10 years ago I’m 23 now and we’ve adapted to the climate we live under ground the only place that’s not frozen over or completely brunt to a crisp. Now everything’s different the earth stopped like Mr. Malcolm predicted he is now the adviser to the great council. I know, I know, it’s weird. We have adapted and it’s all because of jasper. *Professor Ian Malcolm was from the Jurassic park novel and movie but in the novel he believed the park would fail because of the chaos theory and that nature cannot be predicted or controlled © 2014 Imaweirdo:) |
