Rose Gardener and Cactus Bush
He grew roses For the Emir's garden Petals like red velvet Leaves green as forest Rivers of sweet scent Overflowing from their hearts They bloomed in vases Of the royal court Sweetened the lover's reprise . Nestling in the damsel's hairdo While garden lay barren His hands bruised From thorns left behind Heart bleeding from emptiness In arid sands Amidst shrub of thorns Battling the desert Flowered a blossom Bright dazzling yellow Dripping sunlight from its petals Drying his tears Of heartache for lost roses He brought her home With her thorns In a dainty pot Shining brighter over finest china And soon in pots Flowered cactus in homes The new rose That he chose to grow © 2020 Sanjukta Sen Banerjee |
