To Memory & MemoriesA Poem by Sanjukta Sen BanerjeeOur pasts & their images that we stack in our minds like crayons fill colour in the outlined sketches of our present moments that in turn form the blueprint of future. The past lives foreverThe wizard of wonderland The mistress of moments The traffic guard posted on
the road of thoughts and time The sorceress from the
recesses of the soul
That flame lit in a pitch dark room That switch dimming all lights and spelling gloom Potion that heals or kills Palliative or poison That matchstick in a stack of
hay That sudden deluge on a drought struck vale
Oh Memory-sweet or wretched Shaping dreams far fetched Salt or sugar on the platter
of the present? Whichever surely decides the taste Of today and course of
tomorrow
Oh memory resting in letters
diaries books tunes Clothes perfumes every day
fumes Or simply springing from a
sudden date in the calendar Or just another passing
moment now
No matter from where or when No matter bearing pleasure or pain Once arisen doesnt let the rest rest No respite for today or
tomorrow From the grasp of its spell
