Open Wide

Just take a deep breath..and open.

Little by little,
inch by inch
I realize now
that I can't keep pretending
to be dreaming,
for reality hit me
with the pain of the pinch.
Little by little,
inch by inch
my hand draws closer to the knob,
almost willing to open
in tremulous motion,
the gap slowly shrinks
as my confidence grows
and my doubtful thoughts slow
In this moment, I ponder,
would I really have to suffer?
Little by little,
inch by inch
one slight movement,
and my fingers have touched it!
My palm grips the knob,
deciding whether or not I should turn
I'm almost there,
I know I am
All there's left to do now
is take a deep breath,
and open.
