Sonnet: An Auburn Rose

Opening the heart's locker,

A garden rose welcomed me,

Hexed, I became your lover,

Further into obsession, you led me,

Oh, my sweetest Eleanor,

You are the reason my heart soars,

Oh, my beloved Eleanor,

Your sweetening smile makes me want you more,

In your wholesome gaze, my autumn lies,

Coaxing me into writing you more prose,

My heart keeps growing as time flies,

To match my passion for you, my auburn rose,

In my storybook, our moments together are eternal, 

And I swear to be by your side, until fate dials.

Having lost the light and love of my life two years ago this month, after 49 years together, I can easily relate to the poignancy of this romantic piece that does appear to speak, possibly at least, of unrequited love or love gone awry of leaving one to wish to die, rather than go on without her ... Excellent Poetry ...
