My Best Friends!

My Best Friends!

A Story by Donna
"

This is a true story about my best friends!

"
It's been over 17 years ago that my 2 best friends packed up and moved from California to Idaho. I will never forget watching them driving away. I felt so
alone in the world.
I knew this move was the best for
them. It was just to hard to make it in
California, way to expensive.
My 2 best friends, Kathy & John, they
are married. Kathy is 25 years older than
John. They were so in love!
We tried to keep in touch, but you
know how hard it is. We just went on
with our lives. We did keep in touch
through Facebook, but we didn't talk to
much.
Fast forward 17 years later: Kathy
called me on the phone crying, she told
me that she has stage 4 cancer and the
Doctor gave her 4 months to live.
She also told me that John was not
handling it well at all!
For the next few weeks I kept in touch with her, checking on her, and she
seemed to be doing good. She past the
4 months the doctor gave her and she
was happy about that.
About 9 months had gone by and
Kathy called me, her & John were in town
for Kathy's Mother's 100 birthday party,
and they wanted to see me.
I got to the hotel and I saw John
outside, I ran to him and we hugged, then
Kathy came out and I hugged her tight.
We went inside and for the next few
hours it was just like old times. We talked, laughed and took pictures together.
I hated to say goodbye, but we promised
to keep in touch.
About a month later I sent Kathy a
text message to see how everything was.
The next day my phone rang and it was
John. I could hear it in his voice that
something wasn't right. He said, "Kathy
is in the hospital, the doctor gives her
less than a week to live." We talked and cried for hours. John promised to call
me everyday and let me know what is
going on. He went to see her twice a
day.
Three days later, I got the call that I
hoped would never come. It was John,
"Kathy is gone!"

I'm so thankful that I was able to
spend that time with her, and I will
cherish those pictures & memories
forever.

A story about moving on that expresses that simple phrase in so many including that final journey we all must make one day, except, here, the character has made it all too soon leaving a void behind her.

Gee
So sad. It is devastating when friends of a similar age pass, gets us to questioning our own mortality. I'm sorry( belatedly) for your losses Donna.
