When I was a young girl I would count the days until my birthday.
All I wanted was to be older. My Dad and I would celebrate our birthdays together, since they were only days apart.
Now that I am older, they aren't so fun. My Dad is gone and I'm just getting older and older.
Life goes on and I am thankful to have another birthday.
Happy birthday to my Dad, and to me!
(Life goes on and I am thankful to have another birthday.) Indeed...it is a better alternative that NOT having another birthday eh? I enjoyed this write. ~Sharon

You are absolutely right! Thank you for taking the time to read.
Hi Donna,
Well, as they say "Time flys" And, it seems to go at full speed now that I am older... My daughter is 52!!
Yikes...
I always loved and still love birthdays...
When I was young I used to watch the clock, high on the wall in my classroom, waiting for it to be time to go home...
Hurry up and wait...but as I have gotten older I am more patient..
Enjoyed reading your poem..
Lisa, now in Spain
Yes I feel the same way
I recall my birthdays as a young teen mum brought me brekky in bed and a present usually an lp or similar
Those were the days
I can relate to this Donna
Today my baby is turning 27 wow
I can still recall it like yesterday
Thanks Donna

Thank you Richard for reading my poem and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it very much!
What I've always loved about your writing is the way you are so conversational & so revealing & so honest about what you're feeling. I think self-honesty makes for the best writing, like this. I have not celebrated a birthday in about a decade. The whole concept has become meaningless to me now (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
This was a magnificent and heartwarming poem, that was a bit bittersweet. I'm a month late, but happy belated birthday to you and your father! Birthdays are so different as you get older. I can only imagine how even more different they get. A great poem!
