A Story by Donna
"

This about three college graduates that made a promise to each other.

"

Back in 1978, three friends graduated from college. John moved to New York and is a

successful attorney. Paul went to California to work in Real Estate, and Janice decided

to go back home to Arizona to figure out what she wants to do with her life.

Before they all went there separate ways, they made a promise to each other,

if any of them ever needed help, or anything, that we would be there for each

other.

Ten years later, John is getting ready to leave for work, he has a big court case

coming up and he had so much work to do. The doorbell rang, when John opened

the door, he was shocked to see Janice standing there. She looked horrible, she

was a mess, dirty clothes, Janice said, "John, thank God you are home, I need your

help. I need a place to stay for awhile, please?" John asked her, "Are you on drugs?"

Janice looked at him with a mean face, "Can I stay or not? Remember out promise?"

John had to get to work so he let her stay for one night.

John was worried to go home, not knowing what Janice would be doing, he opened

the front door and looked around, the place was a mess. Stuff everywhere. It looked

like Janice went through all of John's stuff. He called her name, but no answer.

He walked into the bathroom where he saw her laying on the floor and blood

everywhere, he screamed and ran out the front door. He ran right into Linda, his

girlfriend. He told Linda everything that happened.

Linda went inside and looked around, then she went to the bathroom, she then

went outside. "John, the house is clean, and nobody is in the bathroom." John

ran inside and headed to the bathroom, she was right, nobody was there, and

the house was clean. John looked at the mirror and saw a newspaper article

cut out and taped to the mirror. It read, "Janice Williams was found dead in

her Arizona apartment this morning." The article was dated, 1982!

John ran to the phone to call Paul and warn him, Paul answered and said, "Hey

John, You will never guess who is here with me right now?" The phone went dead!

It looks like someone has slipped off into the twilight zone. Linda had best get John a stiff drink, methinks. It reminds me of a couple of times when I let an "iffy" person come in to stay a while.

this is one plot for a mystery novel or a chapter in a novel

This would be good for a thriller/horror story. Reminds me of some of Lisa Jackson's earlier suspense novels.

Thank you Lavi, I appreciate you reading my story!
I’m not following your story very easily. I read it twice thru & decided this sketchiness is intentional. I like the way you switch it up & write in different ways & employing widely varying ideas. As a straightforward person myself, I got used to your straightforward style I guess. But now you’re making me work to find the thread to your story! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie
