Homeless Lady

Homeless Lady

A Story by Donna
"

This is a true story.

"
Everyday as I pass by the same drug store on my way to work, I see the same lady, she sits on the concrete outside leaning against the store. She is dirty and looks sad. She doesn't ask for money, she just sits there with her head down.

On my way home from work, she still sits there. Nobody talks to her. Its sad. I wonder who she is? How did she become homeless? Does she have a family?

This went on for 5 years, then one day on my way home from work, I could see up ahead there was a crowd of people and so many police. As I got closer, I could see the crowd was around where the lady sat for so many years.

I walked faster to see what was going on. The homeless lady lay on the concrete in a pool of her own blood. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I felt like she was a part of my life.

A man that was mentally ill walked up to her and started stabbing her till she died. How could this happen?

Days go by and nobody knows her name. How sad to think she will be buried in an unmarked grave. It was on the news that if anyone knew her, to contact the police.

The police received a call, it was her son. He lived in another state. He told the officer that his Mother left and nobody new where she was.

What a sad story this is. Her son had her body sent back home to be put to rest there.

Its been 7 years now and there are still flowers on the ground where she sat.

I hope she is finally at peace!

There's a lot of humanity in this piece Donna. I suspect that, everyday, many of us see people like the one you have described. And we just walk on by and pretend not to see them. Yet, you have brought her to life and given our consciences a wake-up call so that, perhaps, we may start care about our fellow humans a little more, irrespective of who they are or what they look like.

Thank you Les, that was very nice!
she is at peace now because her son remembered and tried to look for her. there is so much cruelty in this world that nobody can understand why it has to happen. we simply can't question everything but the fact remains everything has a reason.
